Sexual Wellbeing at JR Medical

What is sexual wellbeing?

We are healthy if we feel good physically, mentally and emotionally. For many people, sex is an integral part of life. Hence sexual health is an integral part of the overall health. Sexual wellbeing  means those of us who prefer to be sexually active are able to avoid infections, illnesses and take responsibility to ensure that we protect ourselves and others and enjoy the sexual relationship, based on mutual respect, both emotionally and physically.

For many people sex is an important and healthy part of our lives. Sex can be fun, exciting, wonderful and loving. Being sexually healthy means making happy, chosen and healthy decisions about your sex life. Being sexually healthy also means protecting yourself and your partner/s from sexually-transmitted infections (STI’s).

Sexual Problems

Sexual function is dependent on both physical and emotional factors. Sexual problems are common in men and women and can cause great distress.

Sexual dysfunction is more common in women (43%) than men (31%),

Types of sexual problems include:

  • Loss of sex drive
  • Inability to maintain an erection
  • Pain with sex
  • Inability to reach orgasm
  • Premature ejaculation and many more

Sexual function can be affected by illness, stress, medication and by relationship problems.

If you feel sex is not satisfying, do not suffer in silence. The good news is that treatment is available so, for those willing to share their concerns with their partner and health care provider, there is plenty of support available.

The doctors at this clinic look at your feelings and emotions about sex and sexual activity. Often a genital examination is undertaken. Each case will be assessed individually and a care plan is made including your treatment options.

We have following treatments available for sexual dysfunction:

Medications

Psychosexual assessment:

Psychosexual assessments allow a trained medical professional to examine your individual case and establish a treatment path. Most commonly this will result in referral for counselling or other treatment.

Genital Rejuvenation:

Genital rejuvenation (non-surgical perineal repair using PRP, carboxy treatment, vaginal fillers and radiofrequency treatments).

Childbirth is an extremely physically stressful process that puts immense strain on vaginal muscles and tissue. Even with the regular practice of pelvic floor exercises, things might not necessarily return to how they were before. There's always surgery, but with the expense, long recovery times and prolonged discomfort involved, many women unsurprisingly view it as an extreme option. Fortunately, there are effective non-surgical means of helping to improve vaginal function, in a surprisingly short space of time.

Among other treatment options, we provide vaginal fillers; a procedure that helps restore physical plumpness to vaginal tissue, helping to eliminate the sensation of looseness that childbirth can sometimes cause.

We also offer PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment, a process that introduces plasma rich in specific growth factors to your vagina, helping to extend the life of existing cells, and encourage the growth of new cells, which culminates in an enhanced healing process.

On top of these methods, we also include radio frequency treatment to help improve vaginal laxity.

All of these treatments are fairly stress free, and so quick that they can even be performed during a typical lunchtime procedures.

Acupuncture and Mindfulness

Sexual wellbeing isn't as simple as many think, as it's often a complex combination of biological, sensory and mental factors. Acupuncture and mindfulness is one of several therapies which aim to lower stress and tension in the body, resulting in more ideal conditions for good sexual health
